We are looking for someone who's passionate about young people, and wants to engage with them in a way that is authentic and purposeful, with a particular focus on ages 4 to 7. We want someone who is attuned to children in a way that inspires them, and encourages fun learning experiences - without coercion.

About us:

ZigZag ALC is an independent learning community for kids ages 4 to 15 that combines self-directed learning, intentional culture creation, and liberation work. Most of our activities are outside, on an awesome 3-acre property.

Some of the things you'll find yourself doing in this role:

• Allowing kids to be in charge of what they do with their time, while being attentive to their needs, and ready to support in meeting them.

• Tuning in to what kids are playing, interested in, and working on.

• Intentionally taking part in co-creating the school's culture, and engaging in finding strategies that could meet everyone's needs.

• Mediating conflict compassionately, with no shame or blame, and teaching kids tools to help mediate between their friends.

• Engaging and playing with kids.

• Offering activities to extend on and further support kids’ play, interests, and work, and also activities are that based on your own interests, talents, and experiences.

• Tracking several kids of varying ages and developmental stages.

Logistics:

You must pass a background check. Pay is $18/hr on a 1099 contract basis. Our semester runs from March 1st through June 30th. Hours are Tue, Wed, Thu, 9:30 to 3:45.
